Unfortunatley, this is not an easy computer to re-deploy or I would just remake the ISO and re-deploy. Clearly somehow adding the site to trusted sites before sysprepping the OS caused the issue. I did test this image on another computer before adding the site pre-sysprep and post deploy I was able to add the site via normal methods. The only change I made in the image was adding the site pre-sysprep and now It not only didn't keep the settings through the sysprep process, but also locked me from making changes to internet options.

but I didn't see any other way to mark it answered.I just deployed an custom Windows 10 ISO I created and I can't set my local file server as a trusted site in internet options. because of those I was able to refine my search and finally find the final answer. I thought all the GPO's would set registry settings as applicable, but the processing order defined which ones were applied last ( local, then domain, then OU, etc etc).Īgain, thanks for all your help and tips. and they of course did nothing!!!! I'm not going to discount anything !!Īs for registry settings. It's entirely possible you are correct, but I couldn't find any settings in the local GPO, however, based on the other "little" things i find that the users leave behind. the fields I was trying to work with were grayed out as well. I did find it interesting that even in the local GPO setup. cleared the nothingness out), and saved it anyway just to make sure.

did my best to make sure it was set as blank (opened the settings. i did open up the local group policy editor on one. Helpful pages for similar issues (these were where I started, but didn't get anywhere) I found the final set of keys on this webpage (the section that finally helped my issue) I compared the keys here to a working machine and deleted the different settings off the broken one. however, it was the third key in the new list that seems to have been my solution.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Control Panel this morning I found another topic, that pointed me to a couple different areas. These keys were the identical ones I mentioned at first (initial post). HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\ Here is what I found, hope it helps someone else.Īt first, most searches on this topic pointed me to these registry keys. at this point, one of the machines is still grayed out, but at least is getting the settings from Group Policies and I can see them, which is fine with me, the other machine is saying it is fixed (not grayed out) and also receiving settings from GP, but I'll give them both a couple days and a reboot or two before I believe it completely. turns out i'm no registry guru, because I found some more to work with. I've been working with all the registry keys I could find easily. here is what I've found so far.Īs I mentioned in the beginning. no difference.įor reference, all machines are using IE8 I tried uninstalling IE8 on one. go ahead and yell at me.) it still didn't make a difference. I even deleted the internet settings out of one machine and imported a working set from another machine (not a kosher solution. yet still, one is greyed out ,the other is not. I have checked all the registry settings I can find relating to this, and have compared the registry to working machines. When I searched for this problem, I found a lot of answers pointing to registry issues. On machines that are working properly, I CAN edit those fields without issue. When I look at the setting in the IE tools option, the zones are "grayed out" so that I cannot manually edit them. except for the 2 or 3 machines that for some reason fail to take the setting correctly. on about 98% of machines this works fine. Situation: I have added some entries to my domain policies to place my IPrism device into the "Local Intranet" zone in IE. Here's one for a registry guru, or an IE guru.
