To summarize, and reiterate my first point: An excellent addition to the series, with strong and (for the most part) well-varied game-play. Let people with extra money laying around spoil themselves if they want, but it didn't detract anything from the game. I had plenty of resources, and more-than-adequate circuit-upgrades. I made it through an entire game never thinking I was missing anything. I found the entire crafting system extremely fun, and wound up using much more weaponry than in previous games, especially thanks to the ability to craft a second weapon onto most guns. Which brings me to my next point: Having unlocked all the slots in my inventory twice in the previous games, I was happy to start with all my sockets open. Maybe bringing it down to 2 ammo supplies, like regular/explosive might have been better, but hey, overall, it left me digging through my inventory less. The whole unification of ammo thing seems to have oversimplified things. I ran into a few bugs here and there, but altogether it was a solid play-through. If they had attempted to maintain it as primary any longer, it would have been the biggest detriment to the series. Horror gets stale when used repeatedly in the same universe, under similar pretense. Another welcome thing was, in my eyes, the action. Story wise, it tied together a bit of confusion, but left enough questions to prevent our need for answers from being sated.

Instead, gamers received a generic third-person shooter that barely resembled the Dead Space series. With Dead Space 3 slowing morphing into a shell of its former self, Visceral had no choice but to make the best of what it had. Visceral had little say in the matter and had to please Electronic Arts or run the risk of getting the game canceled. To make things worse, EA slashed Dead Space 3's budget. The developers had to scrap most of the game's original narrative while EA demanded features like co-op be implemented into the game. EA didn't believe Visceral's original concept was marketable enough, so it forced the developers to change its entire blueprint. The plot would be similar to the John Carpenter film The Thing as a team of space marines grow paranoid with their surroundings, eventually turning on each other as the plot unfolds. It would be slower-paced and incorporate more psychological horror elements into its gameplay. Visceral Games, Dead Space's developer, originally had Dead Space 3 returning to its horror roots. Everything seemed to be going well for the franchise until EA decided to put their own spin on the series.
